Books and journals collections are the heart of a local studies library. Also very important, of course, are newspapers and maps. Family history and music collections add much to the store of local knowledge and culture.
Books Collection
We have a vast resource of books on all subjects related to Limerick City & County and its rich culture and history. The collection ranges from the very first book published on the history of Limerick in 1787 to the most recent titles available.
We hold an extensive collection of journals. The collection is divided into four categories – Limerick-related journals, parish/community journals, national journals, and journals from counties other than Limerick.
Family history is an area of great interest to many people. Among the resources which can be helpful in such research is our significant collection of books on the history of specific families.
Limerick Local Studies holds extensive collections of historic maps of Limerick City and County. These map collections can be accessed at the Local Studies Department at Watch House Cross Library.
The Local Studies library includes a significant collection of local newspapers. This primary source is an important historical resource for researchers.
