
The response to the appeal was immediate, extensive and generous. Donations poured in from all parts of Ireland, north and south, the UK, Europe and North America. They came from businesses, companies and individuals.
Amounts contributed ranged from an astonishing £500 (more than £30,000 in today’s terms) by the Guinness company to tiny but no doubt sacrificially given contributions of a few pence from anonymous children.
Here we present a database of all contributions recorded in the Relief Fund notices published in The Irish Times & Irish Independent. The details were first taken from the notices in The Irish Times and then any that were different or additional in The Irish Independent notices were added to the table.
